Jane Goodall

Conservationist

Jane Goodall is a British primatologist, ethnologist, anthropologist, and conservationist. Goodall is best known for her 45-year study of chimpanzees where she observed their social interactions. She established the Jane Goodall Institute in 1977 supporting the research of chimpanzees. She strongly supports animal welfare activism and environmental conservation. Goodall has received many honors and awards for her work, including the Tyler Prize for Environmental Achievement, the Gandhi-King Award for Nonviolence, and the Benjamin Franklin Medal in Life Science. In April 2002, Goodall was named a United Nations Messenger of Peace.
