Sign the Shark Pledge

We, the undersigned, call upon the leaders of all the world’s nations to ensure the conservation and protection of our sharks.

We call upon world leaders to act, immediately, to eliminate the sale of shark fins.

We personally pledge never to knowingly purchase or consume shark fins.

When the buying stops, the killing can too.

WildAid, NRDC, The HSUS and Leonardo DiCaprio Urge California State Senators to Save Sharks

Leonardo DiCaprio and a long list of prominent celebrities including athlete Yao Ming, actors Edward Norton, Scarlett Johansson, Megan Fox and pop star Ke$ha have written a joint letter to members of the California State Senate supporting Assembly Bill 376, which would ban the sale of shark fins in California.

Clipping the Fin Trade

Two years ago, diver Michael Aw was monitoring the health of local coral some 1,000 miles south of Bombay. Because this major tourist site in the Republic of Maldives is protected from most fishing, "what I least expected to see was a dying, finned shark," he says. Someone had hauled in the 6-foot gray reef shark, sliced off all its fins, and then tossed it overboard. To cover up the act, the plunderer had tied a 15-pound piece of coral to what remained of the tail to ensure the carcass would sink.
